Why you really dont want the perfect business!
The Myth of the Perfect Business
Even if there was such a thing as a perfect business, you would not want it. Suppose you found a company that was optimized to its fullest ability – it has everything in place including operations manuals, cross-trained staff, great marketing materials and the best products; it was producing $100k to the owner and it needing no new input from you accept to come in an copy exactly what the seller had done for the last 20 years.
Now imagine another company, its not too shabby, but really could improve its marketing plan; plus you could see where you skills in organization could help make significant savings in the operations and measurement. It too was making $100K to the owner and both the ‘perfect’ one and the “not too shabby one’ were for sale at $230K plus inventory. Which has the better chance of increasing in value?
Regardless of this theoretical discussion, every business, just like every human, has room to improve – some have more than others, and some have so much to improve that it might not be worth the effort.
